CSIO Announces Working Group for JSON Data Standards
|
(Toronto – October 11, 2018) The Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) is pleased to announce a new working group to launch the development of JSON standards for the exchange of data in the P&C insurance industry.
About JSON
JSON is an acronym for JavaScript Object Notation. It is a lightweight file format where messages sent using JSON are concise and provide the ability to parse through data for faster transmission and processing.
Similar to CSIO’s existing XML standards, JSON standards are intuitive for both humans and computers to read and write. JSON simplifies the use of web services and application programming interfaces (APIs) which could result in improved broker, carrier and vendor connectivity and industry innovation.
Industry collaboration
“CSIO has the full support of Wawanesa for this initiative,” says Al McLeod, Vice-President Innovation, at The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company. “I am excited to work together with the industry on exploring CSIO standards via JSON protocols to expand API opportunities.”
This working group’s research will align with the work of carriers who are in the process of modernizing their legacy systems and investigating API integration. The working group includes participation from carriers and industry stakeholders across Canada.
“The strong interest in JSON shows our industry’s appetite for modern data standards that support the ease of doing business,” says Catherine Smola, President and CEO of CSIO. “Between the work on implementing commercial lines standards, industry efforts to implement real-time transactions, and now the investigation of JSON standards, 2018 has been a banner year for industry collaboration. We will continue to build on this impressive momentum to drive digital innovation.”
