for their elimination of custom coverage codes (or Z-Codes) in favour of CSIO standardized codes.

Z-Codes are not recognized by BMS vendors, causing friction for brokers when pulling client reports. By using standardized codes exclusively, certified insurers support seamless download and efficient broker workflow.

“I am very proud that so many of our CAMIC members have achieved

Certification of Compliance,” says Normand Lafreniere, President of the Canadian Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. “Our member companies have been working toward the goal of eliminating Z-Codes for a long time, and we are pleased to be able to improve the workflow for our trading partners, ultimately providing a better experience for our members (customers).”

CSIO supports industry certification efforts by hosting monthly National Standards Working Groups, where members collaborate to discuss new codes and overall enhancements to the standards. This frequency ensures that insurers' current and emerging business needs are ready to support innovative products and solutions without the need for Z-Codes.

Further, CSIO works with insurers to analyze their Z-Codes and identify which ones may be replaced with existing standardized codes. As a result of these efforts, brokers can expect to see a sustained decline in Z-Codes, improving the customer data in their BMS over time.
