CSIO 2018 Members’ Meeting & Reception to Feature Keynote by Former Obama Technology & Innovation Advisor Susan Crawford

(Toronto – March 12, 2018) The Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) is pleased to announce Susan Crawford, acclaimed professor at the Harvard School of Law and former Special Assistant for Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy to President Obama, as keynote speaker at its 2018 members’ meeting and reception on April 17 at the National Club in Toronto.

Crawford co-led the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) transition team between the Bush and Obama administrations and is the author of Captive Audience: The Telecom Industry and Monopoly Power in the New Gilded Age, co-author of The Responsive City: Engaging Communities Through Data-Smart Governance, and a regular contributor to Wired magazine. She also served as a member of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Advisory Council on Technology and Innovation and is now a member of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Broadband Task Force.

Her Cities, Data and Privacy in the Age of the Connected Consumer address will provide valuable insight into cutting-edge innovations in data, connectivity and technology in both the public and private realms, as well as the implications for and opportunities available to the insurance industry.

“I am delighted to announce Susan Crawford as the keynote speaker at our 2018 members’ meeting and reception,” says Catherine Smola, President and CEO of CSIO. “Her expertise in technology and privacy is especially relevant to the insurance industry, as the opportunities of big data must be balanced against customer expectations for privacy. I encourage all CSIO members to attend this exciting event.”

Registration is complimentary for CSIO members. Event RSVP and details are available at CSIO.com/csio-members-meeting-reception.
